Allegany County, Maryland

Family crisis resource center, Inc. Housing and more

Their mission is to assist victims of IPV, rape, sexual assault/abuse, child abuse, and stalking, and to reduce these crimes in the community.

They provide temporary housing for those escaping a domestic or IPV situation. The building is secured at all times for staff and residents' safety. They also offer trauma based counseling, along with crisis management. Their services are free and confidential.

RYOMA ACADEMY: Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu 

Ryoma offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a grappling martial art that originated in Japan. This was adapted to utilize leverage and technique to combat the strength and size of larger adversaries. This course will teach understanding of self-defense, all while improving flexibility and physical fitness.  They also offer youth programs focused on "de-escalating bully confrontation." No experience is needed for the beginner classes which meet Tuesday & Friday.

Girls Inc. of Washington County

Girls continue to encounter significant obstacles to their well-being and success. 1 in 4 girls will not finish high school; and 1 in 5 girls will be a victim of childhood sexual abuse. Girls Inc. provides a safe place where their interests, opinions, and concerns are valued. Curricula and experiences build on research that provides age-appropriate knowledge and skills, with hands-on, challenging activities that encourage learning. A consistent presence from elementary through high school that helps girls make positive choices and plan for their futures, Girls Inc. is committed to advancing the rights and opportunities of girls and young women, to reduce and eliminate the barriers girls face, and to reform systems that impede their success.  They are committed to girl-centered advocacy, informed by the lived experiences of girls.

The education armory

This 20-hour, 2 day, Self-Defense Course is a thorough training where you will learn skills, and techniques, Monday through Friday, The last day, during the MATRIX!, you will be put to the test, under pressure, to show off your skills. Students must wear athletic clothing and bring a mouthguard. instructors will provide  protective gear.

SMITH'S KARATE: Tae Kwon Do and Self-Defense

Located in Smithsburg, the Adult program is for ages 13 and up. These well-rounded and rigorous "intense" classes incorporate traditional martial arts, realistic self-defense, and physical fitness.  They provide excellent stress relief and self-confidence for all victims of stalking.
